Tranquil Terrarium - Recipe by Jill Slater

Materials for Large Terrarium

Tranquil Terrarium
  • Large jar or clear glass bowl
  • 1 pin frog, approximately 2- to 3-inch in diameter
  • Floral clay (enough for the bottom of the pin frog)
  • 1 small handful of moss
  • Medium sized white decorative rocks, enough to fill the bottom of the bowl
  • 5 to 8 stems sword fern
  • 3 stems gaylex leaves
  • 3 stems pink miniature carnations
  • Floral preservative and clippers
Directions:
Step 1 - Adhere the floral clay to the bottom of the pin frog; press the frog down onto the bottom of the jar/bowl.

Step 2 - Now scatter decorative rocks on the bottom of the jar/bowl.

Step 3 - Fill the bowl with water that has been treated with floral preservative. The water level should just meet the top of the rocks.

Step 4 - Cover the frog with a bit of moss.

Step 5 - Insert the sword fern, cutting the stems in varying lengths. However, keep the stems slightly lower than the glass jar/bowl. Now insert the gaylex short leaves around the sword fern.

Step 6 - Cut one stem of the miniature carnations about 3-inches in length; insert it into the front of the frog. Cut the next stem approximately 5-inches in length and insert this stem behind the first stem. Cut the final stem so that the top of the stem meets the rim of the jar/bowl and insert it behind all the flowers.
