Bucket of Blooms - Recipe by Jill Slater
Bucket of Blooms

Materials:

  • Ice bucket (approximately 8-inches tall x 8-inches in diameter
  • Chicken wire - enough to cover the top of the ice bucket
  • 3 metal basters
  • Museum clay - available at hardware stores
  • 6 chopsticks
  • Floral tape or masking tape
  • 50 stems white freesia
  • 3 stems white alstroemeria
  • Floral clippers, wire cutters and floral preservative
Directions:
Step 1 - Cut the chicken wire to fit the diameter of the ice bucket; then use floral tape or masking tape to adhere it to the bucket.

Step 2 - Use museum clay to plug the tip of the basters (museum clay is non-toxic and comes off easily, available at hardware stores).

Step 3 - With floral or masking tape, tape two chopsticks to each baster so that the chopsticks make the baster longer. Therefore, attach the chopstick half up the length of the baster.

Step 4 - Fill the ice bucket with water that has been treated with floral preservative. Now cut the freesia to about 8.5-inches in length and insert them into the holes of the chicken wire. The chicken wire holds the flowers in place.

Step 5 - Insert the basters sporadically into the ice bucket. Fill the basters with water treated with floral preservative and then cut and insert 1 stem of alstroemeria into each baster.
