Origins
Nigella damascena, sometimes called "love-in-a-mist," belongs to the Ranunculaceae family and originates in the Mediterranean region and western Asia. The flower's genus name comes from the Latin word niger, meaning "black," which references the color of its seeds. The seeds of Nigella sativa, commonly called black cumin or nutmeg flower, are used as a food seasoning.
