Origins
A hybrid whose name is derived from the Greek word for "burning," Celosia argentea--or just celosia, as it's commonly called. A member of the Amaranthaceae family, celosia is found in both cockscomb--or cristata--and plumed or plumosa--varieties. Cockscomb varieties feature unmistakable sinuous, crested structures, while the plumed flowers--sometimes called feathered amaranth--bear feathery, vertical flowers arranged on spirelike stems. All celosia varieties grow to heights of 2-3.5 feet.

Design Uses
Celosias are striking form flowers that may be used long and tucked throughout dramatic mixed bouquets, or in short-stemmed bunches to create uniquely sculptural mass effects. Since celosia is easily dried, all varieties can be used to beautiful effect in permanent botanical bouquets or those that mix fresh and dried products.

Colors: Bright red, scarlet, cherry, orange, gold or yellow.
