Don't Forget Mom (And Treat Yourself Too!)

May is Mother's Day and what better expression of love and appreciation can you show your mother than through the language of flowers. A history of Mother's Day is found at: http://www.chron.com/content/interactive/special/holidays/97/mom/history.html Mom and mum are nearly synonymous so why not buy her some? They are a 'best bet' for the price, being relatively inexpensive and long lasting. With so many fresh mums to choose from, you can find her favorite color! Combine 2 stems of dainty button mums to combine with fragrant lilies and some greens. Or, pair some daisy mums (the traditional kinds have white petals and yellow centers) with pink carnations and some greens. For that special touch, nothing says love like roses. Consider adding a number of roses to the bouquet to represent her children and grandchildren. Be sure you always cut stems under water before you arrange them in a clean container filled with warm water and a measured amount of preservative. Make sure all the important women (and even some men) who play a significant role of a parent in your life are appreciated this Mother's Day with the scentimental gift of fresh flowers!

No floral professional is trusted more than your local flower retailer. You can just look in their floral containers to see how dedicated they are to their profession. If the cooler is clean enough to eat in, they care about you and the quality of your flowers (but don't take food into the floral cooler!). While you're in their store-selecting mums for mom, see what an inexpensive treat a stem of flowers is for you. Let your local flower retailer become your personal first choice for flowers by buying gifts and treats for yourself there. They can provide the most reliable advice and suggestions about color coordinating stems. They know what certain flowers mean (a lost art) and have many great ideas on using flowers in your home décor. Only a dedicated floral professional can take mom's favorite basket and create a personal design tailored just for her or select her favorite colors and make a loving statement. Think of them first for floral gifts of any type, and pick up a little something special just for you. Now is a great time to try a single stem of purple stock, oh so fragrant. Combine it with your favorite color of carnations (perhaps 3 stems) for an attractive and affordable bouquet for your kitchen table. You'll make mom's day and yours when you think about the possibilities of decorating with fresh flowers!
